The article discusses the role of U.S. soldiers from Utah in the 1918 Meuse-Argonne offensive operation of World War I. Particular focus is given to individual soldiers' experiences of military life prior to and during the operation. The author discusses soldiers' experiences of being drafted, undergoing military training in the U.S., and entering into combat in France. Details on the wounds and psychological damage suffered by veterans of the war are also presented. Other topics include the American Expeditionary Forces (AEF) and the use of chemical weapons and machine guns in World War I.
