The article discusses the transition of the state of Utah from wild and lawless landscape to a rule-based governance as reflected in the narratives of the killing of the grizzly bear Old Ephraim in Cache Valley of Northern Utah in 1923 and the bandit Domenico Tiburzi in Maremma, Italy in 1896. The narratives are similar based on their nature as outlaws, their physiques as big and burly, their attributes as king of their respective domains, and their stories which focused on death.
