The article chronicles the personal and political conflicts of Mormon lobbyist and former secretary of the Utah Territory Almon W. Babbitt and Utah Territorial Governor Brigham Young during the presidency of Zachary Taylor from 1849-1850. Various historical events are cited including the criticism made by Young against Taylor on July 24, 1851, the rivalry between Babbitt and Dr. John Milton Bernhisel, and the decision of Young to appoint Babbitt as legal representative in Washington.
