This article strives to examine the noncanonical text within the "Liberty letter", which was sent from Joseph Smith from Liberty Jail, portions of which later became Doctrine and Covenants sections 121-23. Though much of the letters is contained within the Doctrine and Covenants, the rest of the letter's text provides literary and textual context that leads to greater understanding of the texts in sections 121-23.
