This article offers a history of Mormonism "that illuminates the central role of scriptural logic, describes how it changes over time, and explains how it can lead (and has led) to sharp and even hostile divisions among believers." Because both prophets and scripture can shape a community of believers, the author here discusses specifically the role of scriptures in leading to divisions among those with similar beliefs.
