A biography of poet and artist James Charles Jensen is presented. He was born on June 17, 1847, in Copenhagen, Denmark. He emigrated to the U.S. with his mother in 1854. They lived in Utah briefly before settling in Council Bluffs, Nebraska, where he met David H. Smith, the youngest son of the founder of the Latter Day Saint movement. Particular focus is given to Smith and Jensen's correspondence and to Jensen's possible sexual orientation. Smith's mental illness is also discussed.
