The article discusses the history of the intentional community Harvest Hills in Independence, Missouri, which was founded in 1970 by members of the religious denomination Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (RLDS), also known as the Community of Christ Church (CofC). It is said that increasing religious diversity and decreasing social control has led to a weakened community, citing the work of sociologist Rosabeth Moss Kanter. Topics include the relation of the community to the Mormon notion of Zion, the Restorationist movement in the RLDS, and the role of a community covenant.
