The article discusses the departure of William Law and Jane Law from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saint (LDS church) in 1844. William was First President of the LDS church as of 1841. Topics include the alleged involvement of Mormon church founder Joseph Smith in the attempted assassination of former Missouri governor Lilburn W. Boggs, the Laws's objection to Smith's attempt to command a sexual relationship between his wife Emma Smith and William Law as part of so-called plural marriage (polygamy), and the theocratic organization The Living Constitution, founded by Joseph Smith.
