The article discusses support from leaders from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) of the family of Latter Day Saint movement founder Joseph Smith following his assassination and the assassination of his older brother Hyrum Smith. Special attention is paid to LDS leader Brigham Young's efforts to support Joseph's wife Emma and other Smith family members, and conflicts involving Joseph's younger brother William Smith and other LDS leaders in the Quorum of the Twelve, a governing body of the LDS. The continuing financial support of the Smith family following the church's eventual move to the Western United States is described.
