While the Latter-day Saints were living in Missouri, a plot of land was bought for the intention of building a temple "in Zion". However, when the Mormons were driven out of Missouri, nothing had been done on the plot of land. When the Church of Christ (Temple Lot) and RLDS factions separated from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, each contested for the ownership of the land. This article lays out the history of this contest for the land that continues to some extent today, as well as the relations between the Community of Christ church and the Church of Christ (Temple Lot).
