This article accounts the history of the Mormon Tabernacle and how it was established. President Young initiated the construction of the "Old Tabernacle" near the site of the Salt Lake City Temple. However, he was unsatisfied with the size and desired to build an even bigger building to seat 10,000. The article includes his words to the members, inquiring that they donate money to help fund the construction of this building, since all of the Church's tithing already went toward the construction of the temple. It also includes the thoughts of other ecclesiastical leaders such as Orson Hyde and Charles C. Rich on the Great Tabernacle's purpose and construction. Finally, it accounts the steps of construction it took to build the expansive masterpiece.
