The article discusses the historiography and literary implications of writer Oscar Wilde's 1882 lecture tour in the U.S. Particular focus is given to the relationships between aestheticism, nationality, and transnationalism. According to the author, accounts of Wilde's tour emphasizing U.S.-British relations do so at the expense of important local considerations. Details on Wilde's visit to Salt Lake City, Utah and on his interactions with its Mormon residents are also presented.
