The article discusses the migration of Mormons from Nauvoo, Illinois, in 1846 and particularly the Mormon settlement at Fort Niobrara, Nebraska, during the winter of 1847-1847. It discusses a party of migrants led by then-Mormon presiding bishop George Miller, disagreement between Miller and Mormon High Council member Joseph Holbrook, and the decision making of then-Mormon leader Brigham Young. It also examines the selection of Fort Niobrara as a settlement site, and the difficulties the Mormons faced during the winter of 1846-1847.
