In this article, the author provides an overview of the common goblet during sacramental services in the early church. However, in the early 1900s, new medical knowledge caused profressive-minded members of the Church to take sanitation more seriously. These members of the Church began a grassroots movement against the common cup and suggested to leaders a change to individual drinking vessels.
