John Hamilton Morgan was one of the men who was called to serve in the Southern State Mission, who travelled to Georgia in 1867 and carved a productive field of labor among the ridges and valleys of northwest Georgia. Under the influence of John Morgan, hundreds of new Saints left Georgia for a better life in the new Mormon Zion—an experience that transcends regional boundaries and places nineteenth-century Appalachian Georgians within the broader national movements to the West.
