The article discusses the significance of historians approaching Mormon history with a literary perspective. According to the author, historians and literary historians often ask complementary questions and that Mormon historians should acknowledge the perspective from which they approach Mormon theology and history onto individuals and texts from the past. The author argues that approaching historical documents with a literary perspective can present new questions and perspectives for examining the contents of texts. The author also discusses the significance of print culture in Mormon identity formation.
