The article discusses Mormon pioneer Lucy Hannah White Flake's experiences living in the Mormon settlement of Snowflake, Arizona, through an examination of her diary writings from the mid- to late-19th century. The article explains the departure of Lucy's family from the Mormon community of Salt Lake City, Utah, and her devotion to prayer, along with her experience of Mormon plural marriage with her husband William Jordan Flake. William's various land purchases throughout Arizona are explained as are Lucy's multiple pregnancies. Particular focus is given to William's prosecution for unlawful co-habitation and Lucy's descriptions of farm life in Arizona.
