In the 1990s BYU burst into the consciousness of Dead Sea Scrolls scholars in dramatic and untraditional ways. Many aspects of the story of BYU's involvement in scrolls scholarship have been much publicized by the university, but to non-Mormons this information remains largely unknown, even among biblical scholars. The intent here is not to discuss every way in which LDS scholars have been involved in Dead Sea Scrolls research, but rather to focus on significant involvements - especially on an institutional level - relevant for understanding Mormon interest in and impetus toward such study, as well as the significance and ramifications of these endeavors.
