This article focuses on the Indian Student Placement Program during the time period of 1947-1996. The author showcases “ways in which white Mormons and Indian children came to understand their own identity as two cultures collided.” It highlights the reasons why the LDS community was so willing to help alongside the understanding of the Lamanite origins in The Book of Mormon and the role of Mormon missionaries throughout the program. The author discusses reasons in which “the program demonstrate the complexity of indigenous identity” within the collided communities, discussing the enthnogenesis of both cultures within the articles.
