20 May 1849 to 23 January 1850. Arms is made lieutenant over 30 wagons going to California. The company passes through a deserted Winter Quarters, Nebraska meets Pawnee Indians and interacts with several other emigrant companies. Arms is an excellent diarist and gives lengthy descriptions of his daily activities. The company reaches Salt Lake City and attends a meeting at the Bowery. Arms is hired to guide a train of over a hundred wagons south to California and reaches the San Gabriel Mission.
