The Prophet-Editor : Joseph Smith's Revisions to Two Revelations
Intermountain West Journal of Religious Studies
This essay suggests that a comprehensive, systematic study of Joseph Smith's revisions to his recorded revelations in the Book of Mormon and Doctrine and Covenants should be conducted as a textual criticism. Smith edited "the substance, style and grammar of his revelations, presumably in response to changing circumstances and needs of the Church." [p. 67] The author states that analysis of these changes are vital to a more complete understanding of his revelations and the context of Smith's writings.
