"The United States Census of 1850 was the seventh census of the United States. It was conducted by the Bureau of the Census on June 1, 1850. The official count did not, however, begin in the Utah Territory until 1851. On March 28, 1851, Brigham Young, governor, Utah Territory, assigned the duty of conducting the official census of the territorial clerk, Thomas Bullock." [p. 39]
