In February and April 1844, Warsaw newspapers published two satirical poems critical of Joseph Smith. The poems display an insider's knowledge of the practice and theology of Mormon polygamy. Although only the pseudonym Buckeye is given for the author, internal evidence and clues point to Francis M. Higbee as the author of the poems. The text of both poems are printed in an appendix (pages 355-363).
