The article compares the different rhetoric used for men and women in patriarchal blessings from 1834-1845. Excerpts are given by Joseph Smith, Hyrum Smith, and William Smith of their patriarchal blessings to both men and women. Analysis is given noting the attitude towards women seen in their word choice, as well as in context of mid 19th-century gender attitudes.
