The Salt Lake Tribune, a newspaper that for the past 132 years has defined itself against the interests of the LDS Church, was taken over by Dean Singleton, who has stated that he does not believe the paper's mission should be to challenge Church power. Amidst talk that this could change the balance of the industry, an editor of the Tribune, Jay Shelledy, claims that Singleton has thus far only attempted to kill one story - albeit unsuccessfully.
