This essay gives a brief outline on the events of the Utah War, and then analyzes it in depth based on the poetic representations of two prominent Mormon writers, Eliza R. Snow and Charles W. Penrose. This is an effort in response to William MacKinnon's (President-Elect of the Mormon History Association) charge that non-conventional sources be utilized to provide a broader understanding of the 1857 conflict.
