"The article examines the educational philosophy of Eliza R. Snow, a poet and president of the Relief Society of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. According to the author, Snow's beliefs on education can be discerned through her poetry and other writings. It is suggested that education and eternal life were strongly connected in her philosophy. Details related to educational themes in her poems, including "Genius Emancipated Or, the Effects of Education on the Human Mind," "The Transformation; or the Tool and the Gem," "To Parents," and "Man Capable of Higher Developments," are presented, as well as the texts of the poems. Other topics include self-improvement, freedom of choice, and humility." [Publisher's abstract]
