Davies describes his initial introduction to Mormon studies as a postgraduate student in the 1960s. He revisited that research in the 1980s, and took part in two conferences concerning Mormon studies, in Nottingham and Durham. Because of his work, he was invited to be a guest editor for Dialogue in 2001. Most of his focus is on the two conferences and the major works presented there.
