This letter (ca. 1831-32) was written by the wife of Gideon H. Carter to her non-Mormon 'sister' in Vermont. She implored them to continue their investigation and join the Church so that they 'would believe' and move to Kirtland and then 'go on to the land of Zion with us.' She mentions that Satan will try to deceive them if he possibly can, but 'it is the work of the lord.' She mentions that the gift of tongues is prevalent in Kirtland and that her husband can speak in three or four different languages. The 'Brother John' who is teaching the gospel to the Bowers is probably John S. Carter. The original of this letter is in the Ohio Historical Society.
