Chase discusses the early struggles of the Kauai mission in Hawaii. Using the missionaries' hand-written accounts, he chronicles how the mission survived with the help of Hawaiians Jonatana Nepal and J.W.H. Kauwahi in their efforts to translate the Book of Mormon into Hawaiian. He also notes that the mission likely would not have thrived without the support of the Hawaiian members themselves.
