"The common consensus is that members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are predominantly conservative and Republican. A popular cliche is that you can't be a good Mormon and be a Democrat or you can't be a Mormon and be a liberal. This thesis attempts to document the religious and political perspective of the religion's minority, the moderate to liberal, on their attitudes toward war/peace and the environment. On these two issues moderate to liberal Mormons base much of their ideology on teachings of their prophets and scriptural sources. Brigham Young and Joseph F. Smith appear to be the forefathers of moderate to liberal Mormon thought." [Author's abstract]
