The article discusses Joseph Smith's ideas about adoption theology, in which deceased persons are adopted by living persons into a family. Adoption theology is viewed in relation to "Mormon soteriology, afterlife theology, and ideas of spiritual adoption." Also investigated are "patriarchal blessings, evangelicalism, and the idea of the Great Chain of Being."
