"One of the things that my uncle Brent had always wanted to do was to write a history of this family. We began this project together in March of 2009. My father, Sherman J. Hortin, Brent's older brother, had written his account, more than 20 years earlier. They grew up in the same house, so naturally, many of their recollections are similar each of their histories is unique. It was a great pleasure to work with Brent on this project, and we give a special thanks to my husband, Thomas Wilhelmsen, for his editorial and research skills. We all apoligize for any discrepancies in the names, spellings, and birth dates, of the people who are referenced on these pages. We did our best to check the facts.
