The author details the missionary work in and colonization of of the Little Colorado River, headed by Brigham Young. He reviews the challenges faced by the colonists and explores the idea that the mission was a failed attempt. The work of several colonists, including Horton D. Haight, Jacob Hamblin, and John R. Bennion, is reviewed. The author also reviews the colonists interactions with the Hopi Indians in Moencopi, Arizona.
