Woodruff, Utah, in Rich County was settled in 1870. The Woodruff Irrigating Company was incorporated in 1899 and the following year the company's stockholders tried to build a dam. They tried repeatedly to construct a dam that could withstand the spring floods without success. Not until 1926 when they were assisted by the expertise of Luther M. Winsor, a Cooperative Extension Service specialist, did they begin constructing a dam that could stand up to the spring runoff. This article chronicles the development and later improvement of the Lone Pine Dam and Reservoir in this Mormon farming community.
