This article is a transcript of an interview with Robert J. Matthews. Matthews describes the history of the Joseph Smith translation of the Bible. He relates how Joseph used a King James version of the Bible and either Joseph or Oliver made marks on the pages of the Bible where corrections should be made. The scribe then wrote the corrections on paper. He also tells how he came to study the Inspired Version (the name given to the translation by the RLDS Church). He wrote the RLDS Church for fifteen years before he was granted permission to see the original manuscripts. He then made thirteen visits to the RLDS Archives where he made a typewritten copy of the orignal manuscripts. Due to his work on these manuscripts, he became part of the Scriptures Publication Committee when the committee decided to include portions of the JST in the new LDS edition of the Bible. A table at the end of this articles gives dates and details of Matthews' trips to Missouri.
