The writings of eyewitnesses offer descriptions of the appearance, weight, binding format, text, and other physical characteristics of the gold plates. A sidebar (p. 21) discusses the material that the plates were made of. It posits that the plates were possibly a gold-copper alloy and weighed approximately 60 pounds.
