Bergera recounts the history of Sunstone Magazine under the leadership of Daniel Rector and Elbert Peck, including financial struggles, conflicts with General Authorities, subscription patterns, and reader reactions. Some of Sunstone's most controversial issues during this time covered George P. Lee's excommunication, Elder Dunn's story fabrications, and changes in the temple ceremony. The decision to include commentary on the temple ceremony lead to disciplinary action against both Rector and Peck, increased tensions, and eventually resulted in a change in leadership. Linda Stephenson felt unprepared for the difficulties involved in publishing Sunstone and resigned after just one year.
