"Devout, committed Mormons don't always agree about what it means to be media literate and are diverse in the ways they talk about entertainment media. Some advocate a fixed set of rules that can be applied to all media texts, while others argue that media use is a highly individualized process tied to personal goals. Still others define media literacy as a struggle of relationships, where imbalances of power often imede progress. These findings suggest that the richest source of insight about media literacy is not the content of the messages, but the expressed needs of the audience member. In summary, there are many approaches to media literacy within the Mormon community, and effective media education materials must address a wide range of issues and problems in order to accommodate the interests of this audience."
