In this lecture Crichtlow shares the efforts of Captain James Brown in founding Weber County. Captain Brown made the perilous journey from Salt Lake City to San Francisco and back to collect and deliver the pay for a sick detachment of the Mormon Battalion. Captain Brown then used a large portion of his earnings to purchase a land grant in Mexico, and a large tract of land in Weber county. Brown and his family kept a small portion and generously gave the rest to saints who wished to settle the area. Besides founding the city of Ogden, Brown's efforts pioneered Utah's dairy and cattle industries.
