"Polygamy, or more accurately, bigamy, was illegal in the various states from before the birth of Joseph Smith. Nevertheless, he and the first seven presidents of the Church lived in plural relationships, defying the laws of the land. This book is a summary of not only the various laws that were on the 'books' during the days that the Saints lived in those states, but there are also seven 'hidden revelations' which are not generally known to the Church membership today, or even to the leadership, but which guided the course and direction of the Church during the first half century or more, in relation to plural marriage. Also included is a brief summary of the women to whom Joseph Smith was sealed. Additionally, discourses on plural marriage, excerpts from political speeches, and writinges from modern Fundamentalists are included in this book. The information contained within the pages of this book offers a brief summary of the doctrines as taught by the early leaders, as well as a summary of the laws of the land, showing that the Lord continued to require plural marriage, even though the laws at all times were opposed to it."
