"This chapter will discuss five principles or concepts relative to the doctrine of eternal marriage restored by Joseph Smith that have power to positively influence a spouse or parent to make a more determined effort to succeed in marriage and family relationships. The Prophet taught that marriage is to be an eternal compact. Among those professing Christianity in our day, however, this doctrine is typically rejected because of a misunderstanding of the Savior's interchange with the Sadducees in Matthew 22. This doctrine of eternal marriage is unique to Latter-day Saint theology and is found in both scripture attributable to Joseph Smith and in his sermons and writings. " [From author's introduction]
