In this chapter, Esplin describes Wilford Woodruff's role in establishing the Latter-day Saint education system. He discusses Woodruff's preparation for this role during his years as a student; as well as how he fulfilled this role through his educational endeavors while serving as president of the General Church Board of Education (which he organized) by establishing numerous stake academies and institutionalizing a religion class movement for those who could not attend the stake academies. Esplin goes on to describe how Woodruff's educational efforts and decisions continue to influence the LDS education system today.
