"In the first section of this article I examine how history is central to Mormon theology, revealing a complex interplay between different kinds of places, texts, and people. The second part of the article shows how this relationship echoes the interplay between persons, place and both text and object in wider Mormonism, most especially in temples and in the practice of bearing testimony. The final section shows how this engagement with temples and testimonies works to shape engagement with historical sites, thus illuminating the extent to which pilgrimage activities are different from or similar to everyday religious action."
