Carter articulates the treatment of the LDS Church in Nazi Germany before and during World War II. He outlines efforts of LDS Church officials to maintain a policy of accommodation toward the Nazi regime by complying with requests and investigations, and forming contacts with government officials. He outlines the fluctuation between harrassment and tolerance present in the national government, local communities, and German media and the effect it had on LDS congregations and missionary work. He also discusses doctrinal parallels and comparisons often drawn between LDS beliefs and Nazi policies.
