Woodger and Christensen trace the relationship and comments of Church leaders to President Abraham Lincoln from his time in Springfield, Illinois, through his presidency, and in later years. Early Church leaders did not always have a positive viewpoint of Lincoln. After Lincoln's assassination, the public and Church leaders came to appreciate him. This article includes several charts giving the number of times General Authorities of the Church quoted Lincoln, or said positive things about him from 1880 to 2008. The authors conclude that "this examination of Lincoln's statements as quoted by General Authorities illustrates the kinship felt by many Church leaders and Saints with this American hero."
