Bahr comments on Thomas F. O'Dea's book The Mormons (c1957). O'Dea saw increased university education among Mormons as something which would turn those Mormons away from a literalist interpretation of Mormon revelation and the Church. Current trends in the Church indicate that this did not happen. There is a high participation factor among educated Church members, and they see education and faith as compatible. Bahr presents some reasons why O'Dea came to these conclusions. Much of the rest of the article discusses O'Dea's research methodology for the book. The article also includes some field notes taken by Thomas F. O'Dea in Salt Lake City.
