Lincoln County, Nevada, named after Abraham Lincoln, was created by a legislative act February26, 1866, and was carved from a part of Nye County. Situated on the eastern edge of the state, adjacent to the western border of Utah, it originally covered a larger area than its present boundary. On March 18, 1867, a strip about ten miles in width on its western boundary was cededback to Nye County.
