The settlement of Southwestern Utah occured in the 1850s when President Brigham Young sent families to Parowan and other areas to colonize this corner of the territory. Many of those interpid settlers put down roots first in one place, then moved on to colonize other parts of the region. Two of those early settlers involved in this effort were John Menzies Macfarlane, and Jacob Hamblin.
