The Oregon Trail was blazed by fur traders and missionaries and remained in use from the early 1830s to the mid 1880s. One hundred settlers arrived in Oregon under the leadership of Elijah White. Many emigrants came to Oregon in 1843 which the Indians called the "Great Medicine Road of the Whites".
